Finding a Silver Lining
You can usually find a silver lining in every storm cloud. The one that is roiling over Wisconsin right now has one. For the last two weeks Governors Walker and Kasich have pretty much dominated the national political news (and the punditry on the 2012 election) and we have had a blessed respite from having to read about Mamma Grizzly. But she is back from her Walker imposed hibernation. Here is her latest vapidness. In her view the U. S. Supreme Court turned its back on "common sense and decency" in ruling 8-1 (J. Alito dissenting) to protect the First Amendment in the Westboro Baptist Church case. The Salon article discusses her utter confusion over the First Amendment, particularly her assertion that Dr. Laura's First Amendment rights were trampled when she was vilified in the media for using the "N" word on her radio show. Justice Robert's decision in the Westboro Baptist Church case is a moving defense of free speech on public issues: "speech on public issues occupies the highest rung of the hierarchy of First Amendment values."
