Romney Convert to the Birther Movement?

Mitt Romney in a speech in Michigan today:

His willingness to cozy up to the most deranged elements of the GOP base seemingly knows little bounds. The campaign always stages the people behind the candidate to score points with voter groups, and I appreciate the desire of the campaign to showcase Catholic nuns. Romney is really working hard to poll better with Catholics than McCain did in 2008. In a July 2012 poll by the Pew Research Center, Obama led Romney 51% to 42% among Catholics generally. In 2008, the Catholic vote went for Obama 54% to 45%.

  1. I have absolutely no love for Mittens. But in the context, this was just a misfire at being funny, really not worth the manufactured outrage. Hell, you could make a case that he was mocking Trump and the other birthers, not pandering to them. Unlikely, of course, since the man is to pandering what most of us are to breathing. Still.

  2. Sorry, but I don't think he does much that isn't scripted. That is why I suspect he will get his clock cleaned in the debates.

  3. Heh heh heh. Looking forward to that one. He can't really be relishing the prospect of facing America's best living orator one-on-one. But I sure am.

  4. Hmm. In context...maybe I'm just giving him too much wiggle room.
